The restaurant space at 3817 W. 13th St. that was the home of Knolla’s Pizza from 1995 until it closed in November will have a new tenant starting next week.

David Thompson, who opened his first Tutors Pizza restaurant nearly two weeks ago in the former Clutch House space at 524 S. Seneca, said he will open his 13th Street location in the space on Monday, 5 september. It will be called Tutors Pizza. Express.

The new restaurant will be different from the first Tutors, which features arcade games, a large bar and plenty of seating. This one is much smaller and will focus more on delivery and takeout orders.

But the new tutors will also be different from the Knolla who operated in the strip center for years with just a small walk-in counter. Thompson acquired the space directly to the west and added a small dining room with child-friendly artwork on the walls, a large soda cooler, and tables and chairs that could seat about 40 people.

The new Tutors menu will include Detroit-style pizzas as well as more traditional pies in three sizes as well as baked pastas and subs. It will also offer a starter menu including wings with or without bones, salads, garlic rolls, cheese bread and more.

Thompson, who previously owned Brooklyn Boyz Pizzeria restaurants in Salina, Manhattan and Topeka, has planned other Tutors restaurants in the area. Next, he’ll open a tutor in Hutchinson, then plan one at 946 S. Rock Road, which he says should open this fall. He is also considering locations in Goddard.
