New apartment building on Milwaukee’s east side will let tenants borrow Teslas

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – A new apartment building on the east side of Milwaukee hopes to attract renters without a car. The building will rise between Cambridge and Newhall on North Avenue.

“All these buildings will come and they will be replaced by a multi-purpose building,” said Shar Borg, a real estate agent and developer.

There will be 53 apartments, but not all tenants will need a parking space.

“I think there are a lot of people who don’t own a car, so they don’t want to pay these inflated rents to pay for the cost of indoor underground parking, so our idea is to appeal to those people,” said Borg.

If tenants need to run some errands, the property will have two cars on site that they can borrow. However, not just any vehicle, but a Tesla.

“People don’t need cars all day, every day, do they? You might need a car to get to the grocery store. You might need a ‘a car to get you to another place, so why not have a Tesla here at your disposal?

Borg says they’re not trying to push back those with cars. Some parking spaces will be available on the street and indoors. Local businesses will also provide parking.

“That way, if tenants need extra parking, they’ll have it. We’re not taking up more space by creating new parking.”

Borg says this type of development is perfect for the east side.

“It’s the east side, people are biking, skateboarding, there’s just not a lot of demand for indoor parking space.”

They hope to innovate at the end of this fall.
